Prince George Public Library Tour

The Prince George Public Library put on a tour for myself and the other teacher candidates today. It was a fantastic and eye-opening opportunity to see the incredible number of resources we have free access to as future teachers. I have heard so many stories of the massive amounts of money teachers have spent on books and materials, and it makes me wonder if they had known about all the resources and quality of resources a Public Library has to offer. Something I found most interesting about this library tour is the story bins the library has created, these bins included various materials that can add to a story. As a teacher I would like to add a lot of visuals to my teaching as I believe it leaves students with a greater experience to embed in memory and these tools would be so valuable to me, not to mention free! Additionally, I enjoyed seeing the online resources the Public Library website had to offer, both with library resources and showing external sources that can help teachers in their lesson planning and teaching. Something about being in a library with all those books about so many various topics can really get the juices in your brain flowing. I have a feeling that if I ever get stumped on how I want to create a meaningful and interesting lesson for my students, I can come to the library and find some inspiration. Finally, one more take away I found very valuable from this tour was the idea of brining students to the Public Library on a field trip. I loved going to the library as a child, and I think it would be a fun, educational, and memorable field trip that student would enjoy. I without question will be utilizing the Public Library as I navigate through education school and into my career as a teacher.
